Especially one that's been marked as Answered. BTW: It's in your best interest to not tack a question onto an existing thread. However, you can leave it unchecked & still use a keyboard shortcut assigned to the FormatBulletDefault command to turn on automatic bulleting.
In order for the asterisk to work as I described the AutoFormat As You Type option for Automatic bulleted lists must be enabled in the AutoCorrect Preferences.
Option+8 inserts a bullet character, but it doesn't turn on automatic bullets, nor does it carry on to the next paragraph.

It may be a Windows keystroke but in Mac Word it's assigned to a Mail Merge command. (Note that if you're ending the list on a demoted level you may need to press return more than twice depending on the last level used. To end the automatic bulleting press return twice after typing the last item.To Promote one level use Shift+Tab or press return for each level up.(A different bullet character is assigned to each of 9 levels.)
